Get up, Get Ready, and Go to Work

Get up, Get Ready, and Go to Work - blog post image A few weeks ago while watching TV, I caught part of an old Charlie Rose show where he interviews interesting guests one on one at a round table. His guest that night was Tom Clancy, who sadly, recently passed away at the age of 66. As you may know, Clancy was the critically acclaimed, enormously successful author of such popular works such as The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, and many other literary works. What struck me was how down to earth Clancy seemed for such a successful guy. He was a straight talker, but had an appealing, calm and direct way o ..

Intakes - How Are They Handled In Your Firm? - blog post image Every law firm receives new client calls from some form of advertising. It could be word of mouth, yellow pages, referrals or television. The big question is: How are Intakes Handled in Your Firm? The Initial Call – Could be the MOST important call your firm receives From the moment the phone in your office is answered your prospective client is forming an opinion about your ability to represent him or her. This is the one chance that your firm has to make an impression on the perspective caller. Often, some of the least paid and least trained employees in a law firm are task ..

Watermelons or Potatoes? What do you expect?

Watermelons or Potatoes? What do you expect? - blog post image Farmers are a risk taking bunch. Elements out of their control affect their success or failure. They are at the mercy of the scorching sun, drenching rains, and driving winds. I propose that the most successful farmers don’t pay much attention to the circumstances out of their control however, but are obsessive about the factors within their realm of influence. The farmer prepares the field each season by ridding it of unwanted weeds, fertilizing the soil and providing adequate irrigation. He gathers the right tools and equipment and labor. In a word, he is “ready” to succeed.  ..

Change

Change - blog post image The only thing that is truly consistent is change! Charles Darwin said that it is not the strongest of the species that survive, or the most intelligent, it is the one most responsive to change. While I do not buy in to all of Darwin’s theories, I think this thought is on the money. The difference with humans, as opposed to all others in the animal kingdom, is that the human is capable of making a conscious choice to change… to adapt, to be flexible, to think and adjust, etc. (I also think we humans are the only animals to put ice in our drinks…but that is for anothe ..

“… They have also worked with us in ways to improve how many new cases we sign-up – they constantly are coaching us in ways we can do things better in that regard. In our weekly meetings we go over our new case sign-ups, our demand times and various other statistics and topics. They hold us accountable to ourselves… I could go on & on – our accounting department was also restructured based much on their recommendations. And, Vista also researched and found a new CPA firm for me which actually keeps up on telling me what needs to be done instead of just keeping things as the status quo.”

"As our firm grew, it became difficult to track the progress of cases through the various units, along with the customer service provided to our clients. VISTA developed dashboards for all this and more! When viewing our dashboard, I now have all the important data at my fingertips: client contact, file review, the number of demands filed, files placed in suit, and so much more! Our unit managers also use these tools to ensure that attorneys and staff are staying on-track. As Managing Partner, I am pulled in many directions at once and am often out of the office — the dashboard allows me to zero in on issues as they develop, regardless of my location or the time of day. Great solution for us!"

“The Joye Law Firm would whole-heartedly recommend Vista Consulting’s services. It’s been nearly two years since Vista did the initial needs assessment at our firm, followed by several weeks of ‘boots on the ground’ work. With the benefit of hindsight, I can easily say that improvements we’ve made as the result of their services have easily more than paid for the costs of the same (and that was probably true a few months in.) This is true based on improvements in our case management efficiency and especially in regard to better intake procedures. Our average new cases per month have increased 50%, and this is due in large part on our doing a better job of following up on potential new clients.”
